SDG 7

Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all

Targets to be of relevance for Austria in the context of meetPASS:
7.1 By 2030, ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services
7.2 By 2030, increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix
7.3 By 2030, double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency

Integrating climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning (SDG 13.2) could affect the achievment of SDG 7 or vice versa.
Possible relationships between these two SDGs are given below.
Please read each suggested relationship/claim/hypothesis and indicate your assessment of them.

You can add further comments at the end.

New infrastructure will be necessary to accommodate new energy supply patterns.
How would you assess this relationship/claim/hypothesis?

Climate change measures may impose a constraint on the energy supply by raising initial costs, yet in the long run energy costs will decrease.
How would you assess this relationship/claim/hypothesis?

Increasing the share of renewable energy can be a way to incorporate climate change measures into energy policy. Increasing renewables is vital in order to move away from fossil fuels.
How would you assess this relationship/claim/hypothesis?

Increased energy efficiency combined with saving energy is necessary to reduce total energy requirements.
How would you assess this relationship/claim/hypothesis?

Pricing carbon emissions (e.g. through a carbon tax) may increase the share of renewable energy and increase energy efficiency.
How would you assess this relationship/claim/hypothesis?

Investments in renewable energy and the provision of necessary infrastructure are essential for Austria in order to reduce the import dependency of fossil fuels and to increase the domestic value added by domestic production.
